Good Evening!
Just back from seeing David O. Russel's 'The Fighter' and wanted to get a cheeky little blog in before I drift off to the land of nod to dream sweet, sweet dreams about Mark Wahlberg's arms...
I wanted to talk about the cast's performance, and in particular, Christian Bale. After a questionable performance in 'Terminator Salvation' and an equally questionable accent in the recent Batman films, Bale is by far the best thing to happen to this movie. With utterly deserved supporting actor awards at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild ceremonies for his compelling performance as Dicky Eklund, he is surely a shoo-in for the Academy Award.
Now I won't say this is the best film I have ever seen or that it has changed my life in any way, but it is a ballsy true story. It is also one heck of a boxing film, as I read somewhere "The best boxing film since Rocky" and with 7 Oscar nomination nods under it's belt, I tend to agree.
Collaboratively, the cast have amazing chemistry and notably Amy Adams and Melissa Leo (Screen Actors Guild winner for supporting actress) put in unquestionable gritty performances.
Anyway, Mr. Wahlberg's guns will not fantasise about themselves...
