From the side-splitting, to the tear inducing, I find acceptance speeches are the best part of awards ceremonies.
I've been You-Tubing Oscar speeches from across the years and there are some total beauts among the ones I've watched...
To kick this off, I'm going to share Cuba Gooding Jr's inevitably hilarious speech for his role as Rod Tidwell in the 1996 film 'Jerry Maguire'...
You will be able to see that maybe his character in this film is not so far from the man himself, it had me doubled over!
Other funny speeches include Jack Nicholson for 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and the beginning of Adrien Brody's acceptance for 'The Pianist' where he gets a little over friendly with an unsuspecting Halle Berry.
Some are obviously moving, many include melodramatic thesps turning on the cheese, but there are none more moving and upsetting than Heath Ledger's family accepting his 'Actor in a Supporting Role' award for his iconic portrayal of The Joker in the Batman film 'The Dark Knight' on his behalf. The wound was obviously still so raw at this time, they carried themselves amazingly and it is a really humbling moment.
One completely strange acceptance which freaks me the hell out is from the praying mantis herself, Angelina Jolie, for her supporting role in 'Girl, Interrupted'. From the gothic outfit, to the strange comment about her brother, it is a whole world of weird...take a look!
One I completely love, is Sandra Bullock's acceptance for her leading role in 'The Blind Side'. It is a perfect balance of funny, humble and emotional, plus she looks HOT! Jesse James...FYL.
Others to watch are Dustin Hoffman's acceptance for 'Rain Man', Sean Penn's for his leading role in 'Milk', Hilary Swank's speeches for her leading roles in Million Dollar Baby and Boys Don't Cry and Whoopi Goldberg's for her supporting role in Ghost.
With the BAFTA's coming next Sunday 13th February and the Oscar's on the 27th of this month, I'm sure there will be more people thanking the world and his wife, their Mothers, confessing they are 'so in love with their brothers right now' or using their time to pledge their political or religious views...whatever they do, this year is definitely going to add some more You-Tubable speeches to the list!
