Special effects are not all TF3 has to offer; comic relief in the form of John Turturro and Shia LaBeouf make the third installment of this franchise an entertaing package.
In comparison to TF2, which Michael Bay and LaBeouf themselves admitted was not good enough, TF3 is much improved, in fact probably head and shoulders above.
The Autobots (now working alongside the US Military to solve human problems) discover a 'Cybertronian spacecraft' is hidden on the Moon and inside it their former leader Sentinel Prime. They must learn it's secrets before the Decepticons to once again save the planet.
The introduction of new Autobots and Decepticons adds a freshness to the film. We already know Optimus, Bumblebee and co but it adds depth and the opportunity to delve further into their world.
With a pretty stunning cast including massive stars such as John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Patrick Dempsey, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Tyrese, Josh Duhamel, Turturro and LaBeouf, you can really see that Bay has really tried to step up and pull out all the stops to heighten the credibility of this unpopular series. However, I believe that their talents (especially Malkovich) could have been utilised so much more than they were.
LaBeouf slots seamlessly back into his role as Witwicky. As I've read somewhere before, he is like marmite; either you think he's awesome or you can't stand him. Personally, I'm of the opinion that he's pretty awesome, I can't help but find the guy intriguing. I think he leads from the front in these films, the audience knows the character inside out and he's incredibly endearing.
I need to apologise for my assumption that Bay was was trying to slot Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley into Megan Fox's old role as RHW is Witwicky's new girlfriend Carly. The first shot we see of her is of her derriere in 3D. I'm 100% sure that MANY men at that moment were patting themselves on the back for choosing the largest screen in Britain for this one. No RHW isn't the best actress in the world, I think she'd admit it herself that she isn't an actress; she's a Victoria's Secret model for Christ sake. But if a leading lady role is offered to you on a plate you take it and do what you can with it and I'm bloody happy she did. My girl crush is growing by the second. What she does do exceedingly well is look smoking hot in every single scene... so well done for being so fit Rosie. Jason Statham is currently the luckiest and happiest man alive.
To the miserable ill-informed 'I like to moan and hate everything because it's cool' teenagers talking as loud as they possibly could on my tube home... RHW is, in fact, English NOT American, the second film was NOT amazing in comparison to this one and if you think reading one of the comics once makes you an expert you are sadly mistaken! Unneccessary rant complete!
If people are to moan about explosions and destruction in an action film then I think they need to rethink what movies they go to see. Visually, this film is spectacular, the wingsuit jump sequence was completely stunning in 3D.
I enjoyed how the script cleverly manages to include the Transformers in historical world events. Yes, the script is a little thin, and no, this is not the best film ever made but critics that say they would rather die than have to sit through this again need to have a strong word with themselves.
Maybe I'm sugar coating this with my IMAX experience but I was never once bored or reaching to sneakily check my text messages. I do, however, think that Bay should stop now. These films are clearly not being well recieved. To make an action film work with intricate character development, they need to be fairly long and this film is probably half an hour too long.
All in all, a huge improvement on the second and a thorougly entertaining and visually pleasing spectacle! Would recommend... definitely worth paying the little extra for IMAX 3D.

Bad Teacher 22/06/11
The supporting actors steal the show in this comedy that is never quite as funny as it promises to be. Having a script with as many holes as a string vest means that performances have to patch together something that isn't altogether that salvagable.
Fantastic British actress Lucy Punch shines in her supporting role as Amy Squirrel, a try hard goody two shoes teacher and Diaz's character Elizabeth Halsey's polar opposite. Jason Segel is, as usual, priceless as persistent gym teacher Russell Gettis; his comic timing is quite the gift!
With sub plots flying around left right and centre, Diaz does a good job with the material given to her. Thinking about this character, I think Diaz is the actress that would spring to mind immediately, there's no doubting she's not talented but cheap jokes have had the life hammered out of them here.
The plot sees Halsey being ditched by her fiance after he discovers her money grabbing ways. Halsey then must return to the school she loathes teaching at and makes it her aim to find herself a rich man to marry. In amongst all this, she meets Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), a well off colleague that she attempts to woo by getting fake breasts...
Writing this down really brings to the fore how thin the plot actually is!
Of course, comedies shouldn't get wrapped up in being structurally perfect but completely bypassing quality for a cheap laugh is inexcusable in any genre.
As a whole, 'Bad Teacher' is amusing but a lot of the jokes fall short of what is to be expected from Hollywood produced comedies these days. Lets just say I giggled but didn't roll in the aisles.

X-Men: First Class 01/06/11
'X-Men: First Class' really didn't have a big act to follow with Wolverine in the critics eyes. What this film does, therefore, is restore wavering faith in the X-Men franchise.
Boasting a pretty impressive cast (January Jones aside) with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the roles of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) respectively, this prequel shows us how the mutants discover their powers and what moulds them into their mature selves.
Arguably the best X-Men film so far, the character development and relationship development between these characters is far superior to anything we have seen before. McAvoy's charmingly confident, witty and caring Xavier is in vast contrast to Fassbender's driven, cold and scorned Lehnsherr but their relationship is intriguing.
Kevin Bacon's ex-Nazi Sebastian Shaw is the catalyst for Lehnsherr's revenge fuelled rampage. Shaw tries to push young Erik to reveal his power through threatening him with his beloved mother's death. At failure to perform his power for Shaw, young Erik's mother is killed.
We don't get to find out much about Shaw's 'Hellfire Club' of mutants, vaguely their names but little development or information. The sexy but ever-wooden January Jones does just about enough in her role as Emma Frost.
Having waxed lyrical about character development, it would, however, have added much more to the film as a whole to see more of the young mutant's in more depth. But it is hard to see where director Matthew Vaughn could have squeezed that in without pushing this over the edge as the film stands at 2 hours and 12 minutes long.
Any historical or political faults in this movie are definitely outweighed by supremely strong leads (McAvoy in particular) and impressive visual effects.

Trailer Trash!
Afternoon!
I have a few trailers for your viewing pleasure before I post my (long overdue) X-Men: First class views and also my views of Bad Teacher.
Also having a little shake up and re-vamp of the design and layout of my page in the next week or so. Pretty drab, no?!
Just three trailers for you today...
First up is one I am overly excited about...
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Franco? Pinto? Felton? Lithgow? SERKIS?! BoomChickaWaWa!!
Friends with Benefits
Ashton Kutcher Justin Timberlake and Natalie Portman Mila Kunis star in this deja vu inducing romantic comedy about best friends that pursue a physical relationship with 'No Strings Attached'...
The Change Up
This comedy sees Ryan Reynolds fall back into his comedy comfort zone. While relieving themselves in a fountain, Reynolds and his best friend (Jason Bateman) wish for each others lives and ultimately 'switch bodies'.

The Hangover II 28/05/11
Having heard that Zach Galifianakis has announced there will be a Hangover 3, I'm of the view that Todd Phillips et al are trying to squeeze more juice out of this idea than there actually is.
I think some films should be left untouched, never to have a sequel and never to be remade. Before I saw the Hangover II I was excited and I thought it was the best idea ever. Now I have watched it and heard that there will be a 3rd installment, I think I've lost respect for all involved.
While I enjoyed the Wolfpack's 'Thighland' saga and laugh snorted numerous times, all that has happened is they have copied the Vegas plot and pasted it into a different country. I can't help but think the fast turnover from films 1 to 2 is due to flashing dollar signs in eyes. Now it's been revealed a 3rd is going to be made, I think my thoughts are correct; this concept makes a lot of money, so credibility is being thrown out of the window and sequels are being churned out to earn some easy cash.
The original Hangover is one of my all time favourite comedies, probably just behind Anchorman, Airplane! and Superbad so I think I will just pretend sequels haven't been made, block my ears and lalala!
As I've previously said, as a stand alone film, the Hangover II is pretty bloody funny and I didn't think Bradley Cooper could get any hotter but I wish Hollywood would stop messing with credible movies!

Hanna 25/05/11
Saoirse Ronan is, as usual, exquisite in this Action film that starts off strongly but loses its way.
Boasting a strong cast including Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams and Jason Flemyng, you would expect this Crime Mystery to have enough weight to be exciting and to hold your full attention to the end but unfortunately this is not the case.
Cate Blanchett along with Ronan is fantastic. She creates subtle idiosyncracies for her characters that make them totally real, believable and gripping.
The Chemical Brothers provide a fantastic score which will undoubtebly one of the biggest selling soundtracks of the year.
I'm avoiding slating the slightly boring plot because I did actually get a large amount of enjoyment out of the film owing to terrific acting displays. Having said this, the setting and quirky directing approach from Atonement's Joe Wright make it entertaining for almost the whole duration. Fight scenes are precise and gripping so overall I would reccommend but brace yourself for a sag in excitement.

Thor...So I dropped the ball slightly...
I've just realised that I didn't write a thing about seeing Thor! Error!
I saw it on the 11th of May :S
It was so long ago now that I think I have forgotten any negatives I had to say about it.
On the whole it was a bit all over the place plot wise but Kenneth Branagh has taken this project by the balls and as a result has presented us with a charmingly fun spectacle.
Loving the fact that Idris Elba (Luther) gives a strong and understated performance and we are served up with a new Hollywood hearthrob in the form of Chris Hemsworth (Home and Away) all in one bubble.

Mark Wahlberg's Arms Part 2...
So there I was, browsing through Total Film online, and the one and only Marky Mark's delightful mug greeted me with the equally delightful headline of...
'Mark Wahlberg announces The Fighter 2'
To say I'm giddy at the prospect would be an understatement!
Now I'm not one for sequels and this, so far, is one of my absolute favourite films of the year so I'm a tad nervous. The standard of 'The Fighter' is so high (proven in it's Oscar nods) that I hope they don't screw it.
Here's hoping!

Trailer Trash!
I've got 4 beauts for you today...
Larry Crowne
First up is the cutest trailer I've seen in a while. Starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, this Romantic Comedy is set to be a crowd pleaser...
Bridesmaids
Dubbed 'The Hangover for girls', the trailer does look pretty hilarious. Though I'm not a fan of women who try too hard to be funny, I really hope this comes off as good as it looks...
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Epic. Although I think we're genuinely expected to believe Megan Fox has magically morphed into Rosie Huntington-Whitely, I see no other reason that the third installment of this cracking franchise shouldn't be Action Adventure gold.
Horrible Bosses
Starring Jennifer Anniston, Jason Bateman, Colin Farrel, Jason Sudeikis, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey and Donald Sutherland, this looks ridiculous and hilarious all rolled into one neat little bundle of comedic filmage.
