The first aspect of 'Unknown' that draws you in is the way it is promoted as being a 'Taken' twin with Liam Neeson once again adopting his new guise as an action hero.
With an impressive cast and a beautiful German setting this film is set up to be an exciting thriller.
But unfortunately, despite launching into the action early on with a high speed car crash involving 'Dr Martin Harris' (Neeson) and his taxi driver (Diane Kruger) the struggle to maintain the intense momentum all the way through is evident.
I think what is lacking here is the tension and suspense required to carry an action film with this many twists.
Martin Harris wakes up from a coma, unaware of what has happened, only remembering that he is in Berlin with his wife (January Jones) and she must be alone. Discharging himself from hospital, Harris goes to the hotel his wife is staying in only to find she has no idea who he is and is with another man also claiming to be Dr Martin Harris thus presenting a puzzle for the audience to piece together with him in his attempt to regain his identity.
The plot is unravelled in lethargic twists and turns with many loose ends as it fails to thrill or excite.
Being negative about this film is a hard thing for me to do as I am head over heels for Liam Neeson and everything he touches usually turns to gold in my eyes.
Having said all of this, acting performances don't particularly disappoint, I just feel like they couldn't really make this film memorable or mask the holes in the plot.
